Trump’s First State of The Union Recap

“There has never been a better time to start living the American dream,” Trump said. “I want to talk about what kind of future we are going to have, and what kind of nation we are going to be.”

These words coming from the commander-in-chief on Tuesday’s State of the Union address. Although his tone and body language appeared tired, the transcript of his speech in full outline many optimistic plans and milestones for the United States.

The theme, “A safe, strong and proud America” outlined new tax cuts and economy growth.

A hot topic issue, immigration, Trump promised to work on immigration control as a bipartisan effort. However, during the speech, he used the topic of immigration to reiterate crimes committed by immigrants. He also expressed how he will only go froward with DACA negotiations if plans for the U.S>-Mexico border wall are in place.

Closing the speech with national security, mainly North Korea, Trump stated,”Past experience has taught us that complacency and concessions only invite aggression and provocation. I will not repeat the mistakes of the past administrations that got us into this dangerous position.”

This first address garnered over 48 million viewers according to Nielsen.
